Hajara is a 45-year-old mother living in District 14 with her household of nine members. Married and devoted to her family, she has four daughters and three sons. Her husband lives far away in Iran, leaving her to manage the home largely on her own. She lives day to day with her youngest and eldest sons, but life at home has been challenging. Her eldest son endures constant harassment from his wife, while her daughters face their own difficulties. The daily struggles, combined with emotional and mental stress, have weighed heavily on the family.
Through her engagement with WEFSO, Hajara experienced a transformative change. She was welcomed into a vibrant community of people, each with their own stories of resilience. Through conversations and shared experiences, she gained new perspectives and hope for the future.
During the Homemade Jam and Pickle Making Program organized by WEFSO, Hajara learned the techniques of preparing delicious jams and pickles, discovering the subtle balance of flavors and the methods of preserving fruits and vegetables. She now experiments joyfully in her own kitchen, crafting treats that bring happiness to her family at the dinner table.
Beyond acquiring practical skills, Hajara gained confidence, empowerment, and a renewed sense of purpose. She feels stronger, more capable, and more connected to a supportive community. Looking ahead, she hopes to continue participating in WEFSO’s initiatives, believing that these opportunities hold the key to a better and more sustainable life for herself and her family.
“Being part of WEFSO has truly transformed my life. I have learned new skills, gained confidence, and found a community that inspires me every day. I am grateful from the bottom of my heart!” — Hajara
