Monika is a 28-year-old woman living in District 14 with her household of six members. Married, yet living under extremely challenging circumstances, her life has long been a struggle against chronic illnesses that have taken a toll on both her physical health and emotional resilience. Her husband has become a distant presence, offering neither warmth nor financial support, leaving her to navigate life largely on her own.
Her daily life has been marked by hardship and isolation. She lives in a dim, damp basement with her brother-in-law, where the air feels heavy and the flickering light barely illuminates her workspace. Here, she prepares small, meager meals that hardly sustain her, while enduring relentless humiliation and insults from her husband, her brother-in-law, and his children. These daily struggles left her feeling worthless and overwhelmed by despair.
Monika’s health challenges intensified these hardships. She battled high blood pressure and persistent breast pain, silent reminders of the struggles that many women face.
Since joining the Homemade Jam and Pickle Making Program organized by WEFSO, Monika has undergone a remarkable transformation. She now radiates energy and happiness, as a newfound sense of optimism has rekindled her passion for life and her family’s future. Motivated by this renewed spirit, she eagerly embraced the skills training, discovering the art of making delicious jams and pickles. She now experiments joyfully in her own kitchen, bringing new flavors and joy to her family at the dinner table.
Beyond acquiring practical skills, Monika gained confidence, empowerment, and a renewed sense of purpose. She feels stronger, more capable, and more connected to a supportive community. Looking ahead, she hopes to continue participating in additional WEFSO initiatives, believing that these opportunities will further enrich her life and support her family.
“Being part of the Homemade Jam and Pickle Making Program has truly transformed my life. I feel stronger, happier, and more hopeful for the future. I am grateful for the support and opportunities that have given me a new perspective on life.” — Monika
